The World’s Largest Scavenger Hunt is a unique attempt to break a Guinness World Record, while celebrating Canadian history and culture in Ottawa. Complete challenges as your team of 4 rush through the downtown core racking up points... before the time runs out!

Progress will be tracked through social media posts, trivia answers, and other accomplishments to determine which team will claim the top prize!


Sunday, September 10th from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Immediately followed by a celebration in Marion Dewar Plaza 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM


The event will start and finish at Marion Dewar Plaza (in front of City Hall), with the scavenger hunt taking place throughout central Ottawa.

  • Is this an Escape Room?

    No, we are trying something a little different! Please note that this is not an escape experience, but rather is a large scavenger hunt activity put on by Escape Manor in celebration of Canada’s 150th, as a part of the Ignite 150 initiatives in collaboration with Ottawa 2017.

  • When can I purchase tickets?

    Ticket sales will be open online starting June 27th, and will close on August 27th (*Please note - tickets will NOT be sold on the day of the event*). Be sure to organize your team of 4 and get your tickets early (before they’re gone)!

  • How much does it cost?

    Early-bird tickets are sold out! Regular ticket are now on sale for $132 +tax for your team of 4 people (only $33 +tax per person!). Tickets are already halfway sold-out... get them before they're gone!

  • Where will the event take place?

    You will start and finish at Marion Dewar Plaza, and during the hunt you will disperse throughout the downtown core to achieve as many challenges as possible before time runs out! It will be up to you to choose your path, so choose wisely…

  • What types of things are we looking for?

    You will be searching for objects and capturing photos of symbols of Canadian culture including sculptures, landmarks, wildlife, food, and much more! Expect the odd challenge or two in the mix, this is Escape Manor after all…

  • How many people will be at the event?

    We are anticipating roughly 3500 participants for this event!

  • How big is the hunt radius?

    The activities in the Scavenger Hunt stretch from the Byward Market and Parliament Hill to as far as The Glebe and Hintonburg. Your team can decide how far they’re willing to go…

  • Is transportation being provided during the hunt?

    Yes! Your ticket to the event will double as a bus pass for the day. Simply present it on any OC transpo bus as your proof-of-payment.

  • Can I use any other mode of transportation during the hunt?

    No, the scavenger hunt is strictly walking or bussing. Please leave your cars, bikes, rollerblades and jetpacks at home.

  • Does my team have to stay together or can we split up?

    The objectives you will face will require that all of your team is present, so plan to stick together!

  • When do I have to be there?

    Check-in begins at 8:00 AM on Sunday, September 10th. Be sure to arrive no later than 9:00 AM in order to qualify.

  • How long does the Scavenger Hunt last?

    Check-in begins at 8:00 AM, and the Scavenger Hunt will go from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM, followed by a celebration at Marion Dewar Plaza from 1:00 - 3:00 PM, where we will announce the results.

  • What if I am alone and I want to participate or my team has less than 4 people?

    If you have less than 4 people for your team, you can visit our facebook group to coordinate with other interested participants.

  • How will the entries be scored?

    Each item in the scavenger hunt will be worth a certain number of points, with more difficult/lengthy tasks weighted more heavily. During the event, our volunteers will work behind the scenes scoring each team’s entries to reveal the winners!

  • What if I don’t use social media?

    No problem, just make sure one member of your team is signed up with Facebook or Instagram so that you qualify for scoring!

  • When will we find out the results of the Scavenger Hunt?

    Winners and the results of the Record-breaking attempt will be announced at the celebration at Marion Dewar Plaza, immediately following the conclusion of the event.

  • Will food be provided during the event?

    Food is not included in your ticket price, however there will be water stations and food vendors on site for your convenience. You are also welcome to stop for food at any time during the hunt, but remember, the clock is ticking!

  • Do I have to sign a waiver of liability to participate?

    Absolutely! You can download the waiver here.

  • Is there a minimum age to sign up?

    No, however participants under the age of 14 will need to be accompanied by an adult (18+).

  • Is the Scavenger Hunt available in French?

    Yes! The activity will be available in both French and English

  • Is the Scavenger Hunt wheelchair accessible?

    Yes, the Scavenger Hunt is wheelchair accessible, and your team has the ability to select in which activities you will take part.
